Fire Prevention the Responsibility of All
A collaborative, comprehensive and multi-stakeholder approach to fire prevention is key to the success of GAR’s long-term fire prevention strategy. As many as 17 villages – eight in West Kalimantan Province and nine in Jambi Province – were successful in preventing fires in their respective villages last year. They are determined to maintain their performance this year under an expanded programme called Desa Makmur Peduli Api. As a result of their commitment, these villages received incentives in the form of social infratructure aid from the Company. The communities will use the aid to to build schools, revamp public roads or renovate their community centres. GAR will continue to work with the central and regional governments to step up its fire prevention efforts in light of the uncertain weather conditions this year.
